What is the Inner Mask?

The realm called Maskworld is roamed by creatures called the Inner Mask. These beings reflect the lives of humans wandering the earthly plane, and are characterized by faces which are inverted masks.

The Inner Mask starts its journey at the Temple of Knowledge, which has the words “Know Thyself” written above the door. The Inner Mask has traveled far to understand the meaning of itself, its own peculiar construction, and the purpose of its own existence. It enters the Temple and asks the question “Who am I?” To its dismay, only silence answers. Perturbed, the Inner Mask leaves the Temple, and sits on its front steps for a while. Finally, it decides to go look for the answer to its question elsewhere. This begins the quest framed within this Oracle.

The Inner Mask longs for a way to understand itself, and will be misled by other creatures in its world, both intentionally and unintentionally, who seem to provide answers. The Inner Mask is a childlike creature, innocent and unaware of many things in Maskworld, and will encounter many things for the first time. Many creatures try to send the Inner Mask clues and hints, but the Inner Mask doesn’t always listen or understand. One character in particular that tries to make itself known to the Inner Mask is the Empty Moon.
