A magic child floats in a spirit world
The Lion and the Roc

"It's like a new myth."

What Reviewers are Saying:

"The term “dreamlike” often gets overused and thrown around to describe flights of fancy, but The Lion and the Roc #1 fully fulfills the phrase. Written, illustrated, and colored by Kathleen Kralowec, this introductory issue follows Cassander and Brigid, two wandering cursed spirits sent on a quest to find “the stranger with the secret.” In this flowing, pastel-colored tale, we meet Parable, a young child with amazing abilities; Gusty, Parable’s protector; and a once-powerful goddess. With illustrations that range in style from The Little Prince to Alex Gray, The Lion and the Roc tells a story with a pace that’s in no hurry. This is a peaceful story, and it comes off almost as a bedtime musings in comic form."

What's "The Lion and the Roc?"

An ongoing fantasy comic series by Kathleen Kralowec. It's entirely drawn & colored in traditional media, and new pages are available free every Tuesday and Thursday through Comicker Digital at www.LionAndRoc.com!

What's it about?

Myth, magic, monsters, and gods and goddesses.

Summary: The world has forgotten about magic, slain its mythical beasts, and abandoned most of its gods. But now monsters are being reborn as human beings, who cannot forget the magic that is part of them. This story is about inner power that cannot be eradicated, monsters that refuse to be vanquished, and an ancient being whose devotion cannot be outmatched.

Where to read it:

www.LionAndRoc.com

Where to buy it:

->Digital downloads of the issues can be found at Comixology, DriveThru Comics, and on the Amazon Kindle store!

->Printed hard-copies of the issues are also available, and can be gotten either through my Etsy Store, at some select brick-and-mortar stores (mostly in NYC tho I'm trying to branch out,) and wherever I go to conventions.

Where to see more of the art:

You can see samples of more of the art from the series on my Instagram (where I post pages-in-progress as I am working), on my Patreon (where I post character art, early sneak-peaks and exclusive material available nowhere else), on my Deviant sometimes (I haven't been very dutiful to my DeviantArt page in the last few years, but I hope to post more good character art there in the future) or on the Facebook page for this project (see a preview below)

What it's similar to (what my inspirations were/are):

I get alot of inspiration from Moebius (as everyone probably should) I also really like 1920's art deco illustrative style and especially whenever that style's appeared in comics, P. Craig Russell's work on Elric of Melniborne is a major example which I love alot. I also am very influenced by the comics I read as a kid that got me interested in the medium: Amethyst Princess of Gemworld, The MAXX, and The Sandman

Who will like it:

Hopefully everyone lol -->The first 5 issues are all-ages friendly, but the story will become more mature as the story goes on and the main character grows up. The target age range is probably 15-40, or at least I think so because that's my age range :)

A Bit About the Story:

Parable has never seen outside the jungle, and neither has her one companion Gustovelt, or at least that's what Gustovelt says. But both of them have memories of their past lives, when they were mighty mythological beasts that powerfully influenced the world. Now, spirits and gods from across the world have come to find them, and two spirits in particular, Brigid and Cassander, have arrived on a mission they cannot afford to fail.
